Housing Development Partners (HDP), created in 1990, is a nonprofit affiliate of the San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC). The organization specializes in developing and preserving affordable housing for low-income residents of San Diego. Their efforts are primarily focused on the rehabilitation of existing buildings and new construction, catering to a diverse group including seniors, families, veterans, workers, and residents with special needs. HDP operates with a staff provided by SDHC and is governed by a five-member board. Since its inception, HDP has developed over 1,700 apartments, townhomes, and single-room occupancy units. This includes over 750 units wholly owned by HDP and more than 640 units developed through partnerships. The organization continues to expand its portfolio to address San Diego's varied affordable housing needs, working in collaboration with housing advocates and supporting policies and initiatives that promote affordable housing.
