St. Luke’s Development Corporation (SLDC) is a nonprofit real estate development entity established in 1997 to manage and direct the development and ownership of properties adjacent to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in New Haven. SLDC has acquired at least three major properties, two used as retail rental space and one developed into low-income senior housing via its subsidiary St. Luke’s Senior Housing Inc., which opened in 2007. Primary areas of focus include development of affordable housing (especially for seniors and low- and moderate-income residents), mixed-use housing and retail/mixed-use commercial properties. A current major project involves a 55-unit apartment building, of which 49 units will be rent-restricted to households earning up to 50 percent of area median income, plus ground-floor commercial space. The total projected cost of that development is about US$32.6-36.2 million, with funding from state grants and other sources.
