The Mackle Company traces its roots to 1908, when Frank E. Mackle Sr. launched the family building business in Jacksonville, later shifting operations to South Florida and laying the foundation for what became The Mackle Company. In the postwar years, the company became one of Florida’s largest housing developers, building more than 10,000 homes in Miami-Dade and Broward counties between 1945 and 1954. By the mid-1950s, Mackle had reached national scale. House and Home ranked it the No. 9 homebuilder in the U.S. in 1955, and sources cited on the company site state it rose to No. 1 with 2,023 homes in 1956 and 2,504 housing starts in 1958. The firm also helped found General Development, where Mackle-led communities included Port Charlotte, Port St. Lucie, Palm Bay, Sebastian Highlands, and Vero Beach Highlands. Today, The Mackle Company operates as a private investment and development business focused on commercial and residential real estate, rental income properties, and land investments in Florida, including a medical arts building in South Miami completed in 2022
