Established in the mid-1980s from an ACORN-led housing organizing campaign, the entity formally incorporated in 1996 to preserve and develop affordable rental housing. MHANY focuses its efforts primarily in Eastern and Central Brooklyn, the South Bronx, and East Harlem. It also expanded into New Jersey with its first co-developed project in Paterson in 2009. Notable projects include Chestnut Commons (275 units) and The Peninsula (initial 183‐unit phase within a 740-unit campus) in Hunts Point.
