Novartis AG was founded in 1996 via the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz, and is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. The company has approximately 75,900 employees globally as of 2024, and reported over USD 50 billion in revenue in 2024. In terms of real estate and property development, Novartis operates a large central site known as the Novartis Campus in the St. Johann district of Basel. That campus spans about 20 hectares, accommodates around 8,000 staff, and is being developed as a research and administrative hub. The campus masterplan includes office buildings, laboratories, public visitor spaces, green terraces, and associated infrastructure. Over the next five years, Novartis plans to invest USD 23 billion in the United States in manufacturing, R&D, and facility expansion. This includes building or expanding 10 facilities, of which 7 are new sites. The focus is on manufacturing sites for drug substance and packaging, biologics, radioligand therapies, and a research hub in San Diego.
